Ronnie Offen is a native of Washington, D.C., and received her early art training from the Catholic University, graduating with a degree in art in 1970. Shortly after college, Offen became interested in Oriental brush painting (Sumi-e). She was determined to learn as much as possible about this ancient art and studied the subject with Roddy McLean, Pearl Chang and Henry Wo Yue-kee. Ronnie went on to win several ribbons in shows in the Washington area. She has exhibited with the National Sumi-e Society in New York and Washington, and has had a one-person show at the Veterans' Administration building in Washington.
Ronnie Offen eventually relocated to Raleigh where she expanded the type of artwork she was making and began working with pastels. Again she searched out educational opportunities with this medium, studying with Ann LePere and Luana Winner of Raleigh as well as nationally known artists Daniel Greene, Carol Katchen and Sally Strand. The artist continued to win awards for her work and found herself concentrating on the increasing number of commission requests. Offen belongs to the National Sumi-e Society, and while living in Raleigh was a member of the Wake Visual Arts Association. She now lives in Georgia and is a merit member of the Atlanta Artists Club and member of excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society. She has displayed with both groups and won awards at several Atlanta Artists Club shows, including one at the Abstein Gallery. Ronnie Offen has also shown her artwork with the Pastel Society of North Florida, the Pastel Society of the West Coast and the Pastel Society of America.
