Mary Anne Keel Jenkins was born in 1929 in Stokes, North Carolina and grew up in Greenville. She studied at Ferree School of Art in Raleigh, East Carolina University, North Carolina State University and San Carlos Art School in Mexico City. In a career spanning over fifty years, Jenkins has worked through a number of different styles, mostly abstract, and each of which she explored with great tenacity for long periods. Her work has been exhibited in eight of the North Carolina Museum of Art's Annual Artist's Exhibitions, and in 1999, the Greenville Museum of Art held a 50 Year Retrospective of her artwork. Jenkins has won 43 various awards and exhibited in 50 solo shows and over 361 group shows in the United States and Canada.
