Lucille Stonier was born in Texas in 1890. She studied art all across the country, graduating from both the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and the Parsons School of Design in New York City. The artist studied with Eliot O”Hara and William Lester Stevens during her formative years. While living in North Carolina as a professional artist, Stonier was a member of the Asheville (NC) Art Guild, the Black Mountain (NC) Art Club and the Southern States Art League. Through these venues and others, Stonier was able to show her work widely across the South and she won many awards during her lifetime. Her work can now be found in the permanent collection of the Norton Museum of Art and the Veteran’s Hospital in Otean, North Carolina.
