Jimmy Craig Womble is one North Carolina’s youngest and most exciting talents to emerge on the art scene in recent years. Born and raised in Rocky Mount and a graduate of the Design School at North Carolina State University, Womble knows the local landscape well and has chosen it as his subject of choice. “"A favorite subject of mine over the past six years has been the rural landscape of eastern North Carolina,” writes Womble. “It's not so much the open fields and pastures that draw my attention, but the detritus of a decaying agricultural community. Old tobacco barns, abandoned farmhouses and broken down vehicles inspire me to paint. “
The artist has recently added the coastal landscape to his repertoire, haunting boat yards and docks up and down the Outer Banks of North Carolina, always searching for that unique subject to paint. Jimmy Craig Womble has shown these loose, painterly views of the countryside in numerous juried shows as well as at the Mims Gallery at the Dunn Center, NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. “The textures and colors of these artifacts are not only beautiful but also convey the history of the area in which I grew up,” says Womble. “I am also interested in more urban environments. The sharp light, geometry, and gritty tonality of the city provide a contrast to the more serene, organic landscape of Nash County.” There seems consensus among art critics and collectos as the awards have poured in from Fine Arts League of Cary, The Raleigh Fine Arts Society, and the Rocky Mount Arts Center. Jimmy Craig Womble may be young be he is definetly here to stay. For more information about Jimmy Craig Womble, II, please read his vitae. Click here to view original artwork by Jimmy Craig Womble |
