Jack Zhou states that he works to express oriental mystery with his use of light and color. He combines the artistic conception of Chinese poetry with the western tradition of oil painting. While his phenomenal technique, often pointillism could not be further from the loose minimalism of traditional sumi painting, it possesses a similar quiet harmony.
Jack Zhoujie’s painstaking attention to detail and subtle variations in color would impress even the most fastidious critic. A highland landscape, which another painter might depict as monochrome, is revealed by Zhoujie to be flecked with an immense range of tonalities. When he paints a forest floor carpeted with autumn debris not a single feature is omitted. One wonders if the man ever sleeps.
