Walt Disney is synonymous with animation. Disney created and animated such iconic characters as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck back in 1920’s and, from small beginnings, built an entertainment empire. Walt Disney produced the first full-length animated feature film, Snow White, in 1937. Over 50 years later, in 1989, Walt Disney studios produced the last cel-animated feature film, The Little Mermaid. Animation art from this long period is some of the most collected in the world. Snow White animation art,Peter Pan production drawings, Captain Hook original cels, Snow White,Bambi,Baloo, Ariel, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore…the list goes on and on. Everyone has a favorite character and, if you can find them, the production cels and drawings bring them all to life again. Walt Disney animation art has always been of the highest quality and the vintage Disney cels were all hand-inked by a virtual army of animators. In fact, Disney needed so many artists for his feature films he started his own art school to train them. Even today, Fantasia is considered to be the largest cooperative art project ever undertaken.
Walt Disney Studios has continued to produce great animated movies and cartoons since 1989, but the computer has replaced the cel as the technology of choice. For this reason, there are no original Disney cartoon cels from more recent feature films like the Lion King or Tarzan. This lack of new production artwork has added to the demand for older work and values for Disney animation cels and drawings continue to grow as the years progress.
