At the peak of her career in the 1930s, Bayard Wootten kept a sample book called "Camera Studies." The collection of original silver gelatin prints, uniformly measuring 10 x 13 inches, was an invaluable portfolio. In it were selections of Wootten's favorite works that demonstrated her impressive eye and lens. The subjects included scenes of the North Carolina mountains, the Carolina islands and coastline, Charleston, and botanical studies.
Gallery C is pleased to present 30 original photographs from the"Camera Studies" portfolio. Wootten's love affair with her large-view camera is palpable in each of these images of the Southern landscape. Today historians view these photographs as both personal artistic statements and important pictorial records of a bygone era.
