Gallery C is proud of our collection of hand-colored engravings from John James Audubons The Quadrupeds of North America (1849-51-54). These 155 plates of North American mammals were published in an octavo size measuring 7 x 10.5 inches. The engravings are hand-pulled stone lithographs that were then watercoloured by hand. There were 2,004 copies of the first edition sold, and one hundred of these volumes were used as gifts to foreign governments from the United States government. The gallery purchased the entire three volume set in its original bindings and the plates are in mint and near mint condition. Below you will find a list of the entire collection.
